Staph Infection
I took this past Friday off. Partially because our daycare was closed and I decided to give my mom a break, and partially because I wanted to take Zach to the doctor. He's had these little pimples on his bottom lately. Not a huge deal, he gets a pimple in that region from time to time. He had one that looked pretty icky so I wanted to ask the doctor if there is anything I can put on them to treat them. He also still has the green snot running continuously and has been restless at night, so I wanted the doctor to check his ears.
I am glad I made the appointment on Thursday because by Friday one of the pimples looked pretty bad and for a few days, he wouldn't even want to sit on it. And he kept telling me "my bum hurt". We go in, the doctor tells me it is a staph infection. He must have scratched a pimple and had dirt under his nails, or something like that.
You have got to be kidding me. Can this kid ever get a break?!?
The only times I had heard of staph infections, they have included hospitalizations for several days. Come to find out they are much more common than I had known.
Anyway, for now, the treatment is that he needs to take a warm bath at night and I need to drain it. Luckily I am kind of a freak and that doesn't bother me at all. It does hurt my heart at how bad it hurts my little man. He screams so bad, like he is being beat or something. I know it hurts him, so I don't really blame him. The amount of goo that comes out has to be some sort of pressure relief though.
The doctor told me of a couple things to keep an eye out for, and if I see those things, we are to take him to the ER right away. I am just praying that doesn't happen and it clears up soon!

As heard in the Hiatt house...
Last night I was cleaning the kids up after dinner. I was getting the washcloth wet and I said "who's first?".
Zach: "Baby".
So I got Hannah all cleaned up and out of her highchair. I went to rinse out the washcloth and as I was doing it I said "who's next?"
Zach: "ME!"
Me: "who's me?"
Zach: "ME!"
Me: "who's me?"
Zach: "THE BOY!"
Me: "who's the boy?"
Zach: "Zach"
I love that kid
