Water

Every night the kids get a fresh glass of water (in a straw'ed cup) when they go to bed. Hannah drinks a little bit some nights. Zach sucks it all down every night. Some nights he will ask for more, some nights he just goes to sleep.

Tonight, he called out for more water. Last night when he asked for more, he said he would need some water in the morning and that he wouldn't drink it all before he went to sleep. So tonight, he asks for more and I refill his cup and tell him not to drink too much tonight and save some for morning. And he says to me...

"But Mom, you don't want my tummy to dry out, do you?" 

It made me laugh. His justification of it.

Then I started thinking of his IEP last week. And how we discussed how it can be hard to tell if he says things because he knows how to use words appropriately, or if he truly knew what those words mean. So when he said that to me it just made me so happy that he truly understood the words he was using.

And how he knew to use those words. To get his way :) 

Zach - "I Love You"

Tonight Hannah is at a sleepover so because Zach is a little bummed, wishing he were at his own sleepover, I let him stay up late. I was doing some chores and he sat at the table to have a kiwi for snack before bed. And this happened... 

Back sorry: We sign 'I love you' often in our family. Especially around others because not everyone knows what it means so we can do the sign amongst ourselves. Zach can't naturally just throw the sign up the way the rest of us can because fine motor is not his strength, but he certainly knows what it means so he will usually say. "love you" when he sees us signing.

Every now and then he has a moment that you will see him really trying to form his fingers into the sign, or he will ask me if he is doing it right, or he will ask if I will come and help him.

In those moments, I know he is truly feeling love.
